But today I'm gonna talk a little bit about our American
holiday, Thanksgiving, so today's sunday and since
thursday it's kind of all been on long holiday weekend,
here in the United States, called Thanksgiving.
And many of you have asked me describe
a little bit about what this means to me,
what this means to us as Americans. and essentialy
it's a time for all of us to gather, all of our family
and friends to gather together and talk about
what we are thankful for, what blessings that perhaps
we haven't acknowledged we have throughout the year.
It has its origins back in the 1600s when the pilgrims,
which is what the people who came over from England
were called, to colonize North American, when the pilgrims
and the native Americans gathered together for three day...
I forget exactly what in the 1600s it was... but essentialy
to celebrate a successful
harvest and to celebrate coexiting together.
Now since then, relations since... relations since
that time between English and the Native
Americans kinda went downhill, kinda. got worse, but that's were origin was.
And then in 1789 (seventeen eighty nine) our first president,
George Washington, made Thanksgiving an official holiday
that all Americans celebrate and that most banks
will be closed for, post offices, businesses,
and so on, so that we can gather together with family.
And my Thanksgiving memories growing up: first of all,
kids will have wednesday / thursday / friday off of school
usually, so it's a really long weekend,
five days without and school, it's fantastic.
And I always remember my cousins coming over to celebrate
thursday and friday, and they'd sleep over at our house.
I have six cousins and a sister, and we're all within
five years of each other, about, so we're all essencially
the same age and it was a really great time to,
you know, play in our basement, or run around outside,
if there was snow outside then we'd sled...
oh my gosh, just such great memories.

E muitos de vocês me pediram para descrever
Um pouco sobre o que isso significa para mim,
O que isso significa para nós como americanos. E essencialmente
É um tempo para todos nós reunir, toda a nossa família
E amigos para se reunir e falar sobre
O que estamos gratos por, que bênçãos que talvez
Nós não reconhecemos que temos ao longo do ano.
